Was haben Carl Cox, Robert Miles, Marusha, Sven Väth, Guru Josh, Charlotte de Witte und David Guetta gemeinsam? Sie alle fehlen in der Liste der „200 Greatest Dance Songs of All Time“ des Rolling Stone. Geschafft haben es hingegen Beyoncé, Shakira, Drake, Justin Bieber und Britney Spears.

Die Top 200 des US-Magazins unternimmt eine bunte Reise der Jahrzehnte von den 70ern bis heute. Von Disco und Wave-Pop bis zu Detroit-Techno, House und Dubstep. Von James Brown bis DJ Koze. Donner Summer feiert dabei sowohl den ersten als auch den 200. Platz.

Einige bekannte Szene-Größen tauchen definitiv auf. So findet man u.a. Frankie Knuckles, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, Avicii, Fatboy Slim oder The Chemical Brothers. Doch der Rolling Stone kann auch eine leichte US-amerikanische Färbung der Top 200 nicht verleumden.

„Die Beatles haben großartige Tanzsongs gemacht – ebenso wie Slayer. Fast der gesamte Hip-Hop und Reggae, der jemals gemacht wurde, ist großartige Tanzmusik“, heißt es im Artikel, in welchem die Redakteure ihre Herangehensweise erklären: „Um in unsere Liste der 200 größten Tanzsongs aller Zeiten aufgenommen zu werden, musste ein Song Teil der „Tanzmusikkultur sein“.

Das sei der Grund, warum in dieser Top 200 Madonna und Skrillex auf Chicago-House-Klassiker genauso treffen wie Missy Elliot auf Festival-Rave-Hymnen oder New Order auf Songs, die bei TikTok für Furore sorgten. „Tracks, die über den Tellerrand hinausblicken“ seien ebenso das Ziel gewesen, wie Momente „in denen sich Dance Music mit der breiteren Musikwelt überschneidet“.

Letztendlich wird es nie eine „Top-Liste“ geben, die alle Fans der elektronischen Musik zufriedenstellen wird. Da wir aber froh sind, dass es weder „Layla“ noch „Gangnam Style“ in die Liste geschafft haben, möchten wir euch die gesamte Top 200 nicht vorenthalten:
