Ibiza – a mecca for electronic music, a place full of magic and with a very special vibe that is almost impossible to describe. Nestled in the sparkling azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza has become synonymous with pulsating beats that echo off its sun-drenched shores. Year after year, thousands of people from all corners of the world make their way to see and hear the biggest acts from the electronic cosmos alongside the stunning natural surroundings: whether it’s Solomun, Marco Carola, David Guetta or Black Coffee, whether it’s Pacha, Hï Ibiza, Ushuaïa or one of the legendary afterhours. Now there is a new trend to regain more energy either after a long night or in general: intravenously and in a completely legal way. With various infusions, within a few minutes numerous nutrients can provide positive effects such as physical and mental energy, inner balance, improved sleep, reduced stress and tension, increased immunity, slower skin ageing and greater libido. No bad parameters for a good time, we think. One of the first to offer such infusions in Ibiza is Dr Carlos Castellon. He has been living on the island since 2017 and has since become the most renowned medical place to go on Ibiza – whether for residents, holidaymakers or star DJs. We’ve talked with him about his „Drip IV“ hype.
Carlos, tell us more about yourself and your relationship to Ibiza.
I have been practicing medicine since 2009 and living and working in Ibiza since 2017. My connection to Ibiza started when I was just nine years old. Back then, my sister and I would eagerly buy the „Mixmag“ magazine every month, mainly because of the music CD that came with it. I felt immersed in every page and meticulously read every article. Through this experience I developed a deep appreciation and fascination for Ibiza. Even though I might not have understood everything at that young age, I was able to see Ibiza from a clubber’s perspective, which increased my love for the island.
What are your favourite spots in Ibiza and what does the perfect 48 hours look like for you?
It’s difficult to choose one beach in Ibiza because they are all fantastic. For example, if I were to have friends over for the first time, I would start with a delicious lunch at Jondal, followed by the mesmerising sunset off Es Vedra. In the evening, it would be a good choice to experience the vibe of DC10 Circoloco. The next day we’d start with a delicious breakfast at Passion Cafe or go straight to lunch at Nassau Beach Club. Afterwards, an excursion to the breathtaking beach of Cala Comte would be a fantastic option. To round off the day, there’s probably no way around the Hï with the Martinez Brothers.
Ibiza is known for its nightlife. How does this affect your work as a doctor?
As a doctor, I have the opportunity to work with many different people on the island, both party people and artists. There is a lot of nightlife in Ibiza, but my role is primarily to provide medical care for everyday health problems, including artists‘ families. I don’t deal specifically with drug-related health problems, because in such cases it is recommended to call the emergency services immediately. I take care of routine medical issues and look after the well-being of my patients and their families.
Your Drip IV was the first infusion on the island. Tell us more about the treatment and its benefits.
There are many medically proven benefits. First of all, there is the improved absorption of nutrients. By infusing vitamins, important nutrients are delivered directly into the bloodstream without burdening the digestive tract. This allows for maximum absorption and utilisation by the body and ensures that vitamins and minerals are immediately available for cellular processes. This in turn leads to various aspects such as increased energy and vitality. Infusions of vitamins can provide an instant energy boost by replenishing important vitamins such as the B-complex vitamins and vitamin C, which play a key role in energy production. This can help fight fatigue, improve stamina and boost overall vitality. Also beneficial is improved hydration. IV vitamin infusions often contain fluids to hydrate the body. Adequate hydration is important for maintaining optimal body functions such as circulation, temperature regulation and organ function.
This sounds interesting and almost predestined for Ibiza clubbers.
Not to mention immune support: infusions of vitamin C and other immune-boosting nutrients can help strengthen the immune system, reduce the risk of infection and support the body’s natural defence mechanisms. Faster recovery and rejuvenation can also be achieved: Infusions of vitamins can aid recovery after exercise or illness by replenishing depleted nutrients, promoting tissue repair and reducing oxidative stress. This can help speed healing and return the body to a healthier state. We offer just the right infusion for every need. Qualified nurses come to each person’s hotel or villa with all the equipment, and the whole procedure takes no more than 30 to 60 minutes. Nutrient infusions have a long tradition in medicine. The best-known infusion cocktail, also called the Myers Cocktail, has been used successfully since the 1950s. In America alone, thousands of doctors use this infusion in the prevention and accompanying therapy of diseases. Countless successful treatments and many studies on this topic prove its effectiveness.
Can you give party-goers further advice to help them enjoy their stay on the island as much as possible? Also, what are the biggest risks?
When visiting Ibiza, there are actually a few tips to improve your experience as a partygoer. Firstly, it is important to behave responsibly when consuming alcohol and other substances. Adequate hydration, a healthy diet and enough rest are essential to guarantee or support your well-being during your stay. It is important to be aware of possible risks associated with partying on the island. Excessive alcohol or drug use can lead to impaired judgement, increased vulnerability and possible health complications. It is advisable to look out for friends and party responsibly by staying together, taking care of yourself and being aware of your surroundings. That’s basically the key for an unforgettable time in Ibiza.
